LITTLE ROCK, AR – Little Rock exceeded its yearly average snow total in about 12 hours on Sunday. The official measure of snowfall in the capital city was 5.7 inches, 1.4 inches more that it usually receives in an entire year.
The storm set a record for snowfall for the day. But it fell well short of the single day January record. That was set on Jan 5th in 1960, when Little Rock got 11.3 inches.
The storm made for dangerous driving conditions with dozens of spin-outs and minor accidents. I-30 was turned into a parking lot for most of Monday morning. Travel will only get more difficult as freezing temperatures will turn Arkansas roadways into ice Monday evening.
The storm shut down most school districts in central Arkansas, and many will be closed Tuesday as well. This includes Benton, Bryant, PCSSD, and North Little Rock.

While the main snow event is over, don’t expect temperatures to be rising soon. The rest of the week will be cold, with highs in the 30’s and lows in the teens. For the weekend temperatures are forecasted in the mid to upper 40’s.
