More People Reporting Crimes Against Kids

Arkansas State Police release detailed 2012 report on Crimes Against Kids.
LITTLE ROCK, AR- The number of crimes against children reported in Arkansas are at its highest in 5 years. State Police came out with the report Wednesday which breaks down the numbers and types of allegations in 2012.

Since 2008, the number of people calling in to report child abuse has gone up nearly 10,500. In 2012, 80 percent of the allegations involved sexual abuse, indecent exposure and pornography.

A child counselor said increased awareness most likely led to the increase number of people calling in to report crimes.

"And because if can be anonymous, more calls are being made. Even children are now aware. Children will tell their parents, if you hurt me again, I will call DHS. Children are aware," said Sherry Pogue, Licensed Associate Counselor.

Counselors said children are getting awareness through schools, TV, and from childcare providers who tell them they will be taken care of if they are hurt.
