Churches & Organizations Team Up to Address Community Issues

CONWAY, AR- Various churches and organizations are teaming up in Central Arkansas to address key issues in their communities. They're taking part in a two day conference in Conway, working to build a better community.

"It can be like a microwave approach, but it's a long term thing. You have to have a long term idea with people," said Phillip Fletcher, City of Hope Outreach.

Phillip Fletcher with City of Hope Outreach organized the convention to discuss community issues such as economic development, foster care and building sustainable communities. This is the second year he's hosted these workshops and already seeing progress.

"Now I see success, relationships, people getting involved from the community and outside the community," said Fletcher.

A Conway couple shared their story about how this collaboration is making improvements.

"Tonight's convention means a whole lot to me," said Jerry Williams, resident.

Jerry and Terry Williams manage a mobile home park in Conway, once plagued with fear and crime. They said City of Hope Outreach was a positive impact in their neighborhood.

"This convention can make people more aware of them and what they're trying to accomplish," said Terry Williams, resident.

At the mobile home park, things are a bit different today. There's a sense of community now, after Fletcher's organization came in to help and educate the importance of serving each other and the city.

"We've done a lot of remodeling nd we've had 15 open lots that we have filled up now," said Jerry Williams.

On the property is a vacant trailer that is now in the process of becoming a church, which is expected to open next month. It's one of Fletcher's ways to reach out to people and work towards a better tomorrow.

"All of us equally work together, then great things can be accomplished. If we worked having one mind, one purpose, then the city is improved, peoples lives are improve," said Fletcher.
