Suspect tells police demons and ghosts made him destroy hotel room

MEMPHIS, TN – A Hot Springs man accused of trashing his Memphis hotel room over the weekend tells police he destroyed the room because demons and ghosts were there.

According to the affidavit of complaint, Hot Springs resident Mabry Guenther, 22, caused $10,000 worth of damage to his hotel room at 1441 E. Brooks Road in Memphis.

The complaint said the room was flooded, microwave destroyed, the sheetrock in the bathroom had been destroyed, and furniture was piled up in the bathtub. The owner of the hotel said Guenther tore out a security camera before leaving in a black t-shirt and blue boxer shorts.

Police found the Guenther and the owner, who had followed him out of the hotel, several blocks away. According to the complaint, Guenther “stated he destroyed the room because demons were there and the ghosts told him he had to let them out.”

Guenther was taken to the hospital for medical treatment before being taken to jail.
