BENTON, AR - The investigation into exactly how a Benton man ended up in his front yard suffering from a gunshot wound has taken a strange turn.

Detectives with the Benton Police Department arrested a Little Rock teacher accused of helping the man shoot himself, according to investigators.

The shooting took place just after midnight late Thursday on Millbrook Cove. Officers discovered Timothy Gauldin, 29, (left) suffering from a gunshot wound. He was airlifted to a hospital where he was listed in serious condition.

Police say Jason Gaunt, 35, (right) provided Gauldin with a gun and helped Gauldin shoot himself. Authorities didn't elaborate on the nature of the "help" Gaunt provided. He was arrested late Friday evening.

When police executed a search warrant at Gaunt's home, they report discovering the firearm involved in the incident as well as a marijuana home grow operation.

Benton Police say Gaunt is a teacher with the Little Rock School District.

Gaunt was arrested for Furnishing a Firearm to a Convicted Felon, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Gauldin hasn't been formally charged yet due to the serious nature of his injuries.

Benton police say Gauldin is an active parolee out of the Arkansas Department of Community Corrections.
