A Little Rock shooting in broad daylight sends a man to the hospital. It happened on 13th Street near Booker Street around 9:00 Saturday morning. Police say a teenager pulled the trigger.
Witnesses saw the victim lying on the ground. Shortly after, police arrived, followed by emergency medical crews. Police say they have a good idea who may be behind it, 19 year-old Courtney Hammonds is behind bars.
Lloyd Summons, 85, has lived in his Booker Street home for over 30 years. He feels safe, but this morning something startled him. "What got my attention, I heard some shooting. It was back that way. That's what got my attention,” he said.
Summons heard the gunshots coming from 13th street near his home. "Seems like it was about three [gun shots] to me. It may have been more."
He didn't have time to react. "Before I knew anything, all of this was surrounded with police,” Summons said pointing in front of his home.
Officers say two people got into an argument and it ended in gunfire. The victim collapsed on Booker Street. "I guess he went as far as he could go," Summons said.
Saturday afternoon, you could still see blood stains on the street. What's so alarming for many is this happened right in front of a daycare center.
“They would've seen something they should not have seen," Summons said.
We spoke to a resident who lives across from the daycare but he was away from home at the time, only returning home to see the blood in front of his driveway.
Summons is wondering why violence struck so close to his home and hopes those involved will find a different way to settle their differences. "That's bad. They're not listening," he said. "They're not listening to what's good. Just taking the law into their own hands."
Police say 19 year-old Courtney Hammonds shot the victim in the upper torso. The victim, whose name isn't being released, was transported to a Little Rock hospital where he’s recovering. His injuries are not life-threatening. Hammonds is being held on 1
st degree battery charges.
Investigators haven't determined why the two people involved were arguing in the first place.
