Reports say Auburn head football coach Tommy Tuberville is close to signing a deal to coach the Razorbacks. Tuberville would replace Houston Nutt, who accepted the head coach position at Ole Miss. We reported that Auburn had made him a new offer, but he had not accepted. Instead, he is spending Thursday and Friday in Stuttgart on a hunting trip. We've now been told by those same sources, those meetings with Auburn officials didn't go well. Thus opening up the Arkansas offer, which is said to be in the five year range, which would also include a huge six million dollar buy out. Now nothing has been signed yet, but they're getting close to the finish line is what we’re being told. Tuberville and Houston Nutt share the same agent in Jimmy Sexton so he's very familiar with UofA and the players involved. Auburn's Athletic Director Jay Jacobs released this statement earlier Thursday evening, "I have not been contacted. If that were true, with the kind of leadership they have, I feel certain I would be". The Birmingham news now reporting that, Tuberville has said he's not going to rush through his negotiations with university officials toward a new contract despite ”a sense of urgency outside in the public eye, but contracts take forever.''
