CONWAY, Ark. (AP) - A small plane crashed into a house near Conway's airport Saturday, killing the pilot and one woman on the ground.

Faulkner County Coroner Patrick Moore said at a news conference at the airport that the person killed on the ground was an occupant of the house that was hit. He said the only other passenger in the plane and the only other person in the house both survived. He would not release any names or conditions, but said the pilot who died was a man.

The crash occurred a little before 3 p.m.

Authorities would not say where the plane had originated or what might have caused the crash. They believe the plane was trying to land at Conway.

Authorities said it took about two hours to put out the fire.

The Federal Aviation Administration has closed the Conway airport. It is expected to reopen Sunday.
