A tenured professor at the University of Central Arkansas has been fired after his arrest on an Internet stalking charge. Forty four year old Troy Helm of Conway was music librarian and assistant professor of music at UCA, working both at the library and as a tenured professor. He was arrested June 15th by North Little Rock police on charges of Internet stalking of a child and criminal attempt to commit rape.
Police say Helm corresponded by Internet from December 2005 to June with a person he believed to be a 13 year old girl but who was actually with the police. According to an arrest report, he steered the conversation to a sexual nature while he believed he was talking to a juvenile and he suggested the two meet.
UCA President Lu Hardin has banned Helm from the campus and
from having contact with any UCA student.
