Jury selection is in the second day in the capital murder trial over Anne Pressly's death.

Right now the total stands at 11 jurors, 7 white males and 4 black females. This number is whittled down from 100 Monday morning. Attorneys are working to find 12 jurors and 2 alternates to hear the evidence.

We tried to talk to potential jurors Monday night who had been dismissed. But they say they were told not to talk to the media. The judge expects the trial start Wednesday.

Of the 100 potential jurors, only one hadn't heard about the Pressly case. In addition to capital murder, Vance also faces rape and burglary charges.

Her accused killer, Curtis Vance, was seen for the first time in court wearing slacks and a button down shirt.  He was facing potential jurors who will decide his guilt or innocence and the possibility of whether he will receive the death penalty.

Each juror is questioned individually at first about the intense media attention focused on the case. And then in groups of five at a time jury candidates are asked questions like “Do you live in the Heights, Hillcrest or Cammack village neighborhoods?” and “What is your opinion of the reliability of DNA testing?”

DNA is expected to be the key piece of state evidence that places Vance inside Anne Pressly’s home and links him to her murder.

Judge Piazza thinks the murder trial of Curtis Vance will take two weeks. After that Vance faces a rape trial in Marianna. Prosecutors there say he attacked a school teacher.

I agree with the writer who observed that no same race person will sentence vance to death should he be convicted .

Who cares what color Vance is...who cares what color Anne Pressley was...If he's guilty, see ya. I don't see how he is not guilty.

And I meant to add, when are we as a society going to stop labeling people, white, black, red, yellow, purple??? Until we stop putting labels on people, there will still be racism.

I say if they have HIS DNA in her house -- throw away the key! It's time to send a message to criminals of any color, creed or religion, you do the crime, you do the time.

I agree100% with happyme and chonca. As far as the person sayinf that the his same race want convict him I disagree with you. I have been on a jury and they were the first ones to decide that the person of their race was quilty. People are people first and non of us of any color wants something this terrible to happen to anyone! Black ,white or whatever we are sick of these monsters.

Sooner or later here in the USA we are going to have to change our punishment system for those who commit violent crimes. I for one get sick and tired of reading almost daily of someone who is turned lose back on the street after serving X number of years for rape, murder and/or child molesteing. This old thing of being able to appeal once sentence for the next 20 years needs to be done away with. If a person is found guilty and the sentence is death then that needs to be carried out within a year, not 20. If this man is found guilty and it appears he is, death to him.

To Teapot: Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I do have to say that I don't see why a person would "confess" to doing something that they had nothing to do with. Especially rape and murder and knowing his/her life would be on the line. I don't care what police may have said or done....why admit to it if indeed he had nothing to do with it? It just doesn't make sense. And the fact that they found his DNA at her house....doesn't help his defense at all. I'm not one to judge and I'm not saying he did it or didn't do it. I hope that the person responsible is held accountable. DNA doesn't lie, and if he is found guilty, he should be help 100% accountable.

If the defense gets the racial makeup of the jury they want , he will not be convicted , regardless of the evidence . In the unlikely event that he is convicted , no same race person will sentence him to death . That is just the way it is . The evidence be damned .

If the DNA does not match then he should go free. If the DNA does match he should get the death penalty.

Ok if you feel so much pitty for him, explain HIS DNA and fingerprints at her house ? Explain how they proved he was at her house that night. AND explain why this man confessed to what he did and gave details to the police that nobody else could have known.
