A deadly shooting in Faulkner County left one man dead and another man in custody. The shooting happened early Saturday morning and neighbors had no clue until one of them was asked to help.
In rural Faulkner County just off Highway 89, Elizabeth Hill hardly ever sees crime. "It's a little scary when you only live one little piece of land across from them,” she says referring to a RV trailer that was surrounded by yellow crime tape Saturday.
"The gentleman who actually shot him was there,” said Major Andy Shock.
Shock says just before 3 in the morning, they picked up suspected shooter 43-year-old Audie Taylor outside of the trailer. It’s also where they found the body of the 37-year-old man who lived here.
"A lot of stuff is still ongoing right now so we can’t say a whole lot about it," Shock said. "Hopefully we'll have more details later. I can't even release the victim."
Deputies say the two men get into a fight and the suspect to pulled out a .22 caliber rifle. Taylor then ran to a neighbor's house to explain what happened. The neighbor then called 911.
When authorities arrived, they had no problems arresting Taylor. "He has admitted to being the shooter,” Shock said.
The neighborhood is more than a little shaken up. "I do have a young child,” Hill said. "You don't want that kind of stuff going on. Especially out here in the country where you feel you're supposed to be safer. That's the whole point of living out in the country."
Taylor is not being charged with murder. However, at this time he is being charged with a felon in possession of a firearm. There is no word yet of his criminal history. Deputies say there are extenuating circumstances in this case and a prosecutor is reviewing the file.
Major Shock says the two men were acquainted with one another, got into some type of confrontation and deputies say the suspect chose to end it with gunfire. They are investigating what they were fighting about.
Deputies say the Audie Taylor is from Cabot. The victim's body was found laying on the ground at 737 Highway 89 South, near Mayflower. Neighbors say the victim had just recently moved into the rural neighborhood.
