GURDON, AR - Preliminary autopsy findings indicate a Gurdon High football player who collapsed Tuesday died of natural causes.

The findings indicate Montel Williams, 15, suffered a cardiac incident from an unknown pre-existing medical condition.

Richard Gallagher, Assistant Director of the State Crime Lab released the limited findings Friday afternoon.

Williams mother, Sandra Walker, told FOX16 News on Friday knowing the cause of death doesn't relieve her concerns.

"I still think they were practicing too hard," Walker says.  "He was being pushed too much."

The family of Williams, who died after collapsing on the practice field at at Gurdon High School Tuesday, has also announced that a service will be held Wednesday, August 17 at Gurdon High School Auditorium. The service will start at at 2:00 p.m. with visitation beginning one hour before.

Montel's coach said that there was no warning that anything was wrong before the sophomore collapsed at Tuesday night's practice.

The temperature in Arkadelphia, about 15 miles north of Gurdon, was 93 degrees at 8 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service with a heat index of 110 degrees.

But the preliminary autopsy report rules out heat as a cause.

I cant believe the nerves of some of you people! How can you sit back and judge anyone? You are not perfect! Regardless of what caused his death a young man has lost his life! Have some respect and sympathy for this baby and his family! Put yourself in their shoes and think about how you would feel if you were them! My heart and prayers go out to the family of Montel Williams and may he R.I.P!

When you consider the alcohol and drug related deaths of young people, the problem with heat related fatalies pale in comparison to almost miniscule levels. No one should judge the family of this fine young man or the value this sport had in his all too short life. Terry Stracener Hot Springs.

Irregardless of the heart condition if we would be honest about it, we ALL know the heat and the practice was the real culprit. We lose young men EVERY year from this. Why they can't start the practice out a week or so later or make schedule adjustments for weather? I agree that they don't really regard these kids as anything more than a trophy. Why else would they not incorporate flexibility in the schedules? I will say again that if people quit going to the first game of the season in protest they would change policy. Another young life lost for NO good reason. There's also the problem of the financial burden of a full scale heart work-up. You should check out what these parents have to put out already to play sports or any other of the "select activities and clubs" in school. Most children are denied the opportunity to participate due to their parents financial status.

To all you ignorant individuals that's talking down on the mother and the family, please be careful of judging others. I'm pretty sure that child didn't have any health problems. It is extremely to HOT period for any child to be on any football field. Majority of these kids doesn't eat right, sleep right, or take in enough healthy fluids to even be outside in this heat exercising. Also, I know sports is a lot of our children big dreams, because they hope to one day be a famous athlete. However, we as parent must know that majority of the schools doesn't care about our children, they just want their school district to when a championship title. Once that child become a senior majority of the schools out there wouldn't even try to get them a scholarship. My prayers goes out to the family.

Instead of creating laws about wearing earbuds on a public sidewalk, how about our legislature passing a law that requires a full cardiovascular workup before participating in school sports?

I think people need to stop being so cruel. This mother is in shock, who is to say that she's going to sue anyone. People are soooooo bad to make judgement on someone. If you can't say something nice, just don't say nothing at all. How would you like to be in her shoes. Please pray for her and the family and let that along. We as americans needs to pull together and stop hating each others. God says how can you love me, whom you have not seen and hate your brothern who you see everyday. He says you liar and the truth ain't in you. again please pray for this family!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Montel was reported to be an A student an athlete and most importantly a beloved son. Please show respect when speaking of the dead as you may harm the living. Maybe this will prompt a law that requires mandatory heart screenings of All student athletes.
