LITTLE ROCK, AR - eStem students will get a three day weekend thanks to a water main break in downtown Little Rock.

Central Arkansas Water says a 12--inch water main on Louisiana Street broke "spontaneously" today.

It left several businesses without water and also eStem charter school's K-through-eighth grade building.

As a result, eStem closed today and will remain closed tomorrow.

As for the businesses…

"Basically our bathrooms and coffee is out but we're dealing with it,” says Wayne Alley with VCC Construction. “It's an unfortunate situation but we're doing the best with it."

Central Arkansas Water says this section of Louisiana - between 2nd and 3rd Streets - should be drivable this evening.

That will be a temporary fix though. Contractors will have to come in to fix the road permanently.

Statement from eStem

Attention eStem Families:

As you are aware, our schools were forced to close today due to unsafe conditions as a result of a broken major water line on Louisiana Street. The street has been damaged severely, and for a period of time, water was flowing like a river down the streets around our school buildings. The water has been shut off in the area for the near term as workers attempt to fix the problem.

We regret the inconvenience this event has caused, but we hope you understand that the safety of our students and staff is our priority. We are awaiting word on how quickly the problems will be fixed in the area and will make a determination on whether we will be able to have school tomorrow by noon today.

Thank you for your support and patience!
