Update: 3-Year-Old Flown to Hospital After Pit Bull Attack in 'Stable Condition'

Faulkner County Sheriff's deputies had to shoot the dog.
FAULKNER COUNTY, AR -- The 3-year-old child who had to be flown to a hospital after being mauled by a dog in Faulkner County is now in stable condition, according to law enforcement officials.

It happened on the 400 block of Highway 365 shortly after 1 p.m. Monday.

Officer Matt Rice with the Faulkner County Sheriff's Office says the child has serious head injuries.

Rice says the dog is a pit bull.

The dog belonged to the injured child's grandfather, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The dog was chained, but is believed to have broken the chain and attacked the child.
