RUSSELLVILLE, AR - Arkansas State Police are investigating an officer involved shooting that happened Friday afternoon in Russellville.

Russellville Police say they responded to 412 West I Street about a suicidal person at 3:23pm. According to the police, a man came out of the house with a pistol pointed at them so an officer shot the man, wounding him.

The man, identified as 54-year-old Walter Hirsch, died after being taken to the hospital, according to the State Police.

Police had been to the same home earlier on two occasions Friday, according to a release from the Arkansas State Police. The second call was for a report from a resident that someone had fired a gunshot into a window of the home.

The third call, which led to the officer involved shooting, came from a Crisis Hotline service reporting police assistance may be needed at the residence, according to the release.

The Pope County Coroner is withholding the name of the victim pending notification of next of kin. Russellville Police say none of their officers were hurt.

The officer has been put on paid administrative leave while State Police investigate the incident.

I hope he rests in peace also. But there are religions that believe the body is a Temple. And some feel that God does not take kindly to people destroying His Temple's. Just sayin'. Granny, I am not a jerk; and your "hope" is not very Chrisitan like. Sad. And Butch; yeah, I know about such things, even though I haven't done time. Like "no pictures, too many lawyers and ex old ladies looking for me"! One more thought granny; I've been in many a sinking boat in my lifetime; but I can swim! LOL

We live close by and W. visited my 88-year-old mother to give her flowers in the last few days. He visited her again just minutes before all this happened. I feel bad that this happened to him. I hope he rests in peace.

Yankee I quit worrying about what was the best methods of killing when I became able to dial the phone and go on vacation. Someday I will give my name to someone on here that can run background checks. Then you will understand what I mean. I give all that up though. Hard to disprove Out of state pictures and receipts. Keeping the mouth shut is the most important thing.

Butch; You say you are a crossbow man. I've heard knives and arrows go through vests. Getting close enough to use a knife of course would be foolish; but a crossbow or bow is a different story. Any truth to this? And some have weapons and ammo that no vest will stop. I will agree, head shots are best though. In this particular case, I'm glad the officer wasn't hurt.

Didn't say I was happy about the outcome. If I had been, an exclamation point would have ended the sentence instead of a period. It is indeed sad when someone no longer wishes to live. I've had friends commit suicide; and it hurts me deep down inside, believe you me. That's what the memorial at the sub was for a few weeks ago; a soldier wounded in the Middle East with PTSD just couldn't deal with it anymore. If I sounded snide, I apologize. My sympathy to the familiy.

Largest body mass is bull ----. Always go for the head. A person not wanting to live is sad. The only thing worse in my eyes is being happy that he got his wish.

I feel that Russellville Police Department is walking on eggshells to get the story correct! They still take alot of heat from the Nona D. case. And the incident wasn't in a house, it was in a loft apartment, he lived alone.

So, I know who it was who got shot. There were neighbors who saw what happend. And the victim allegedly shot the police officer first in the chest (saved by the vest). They returned fire and shot the victim in the chest. From when I knew him, he did seem to be unstable. His mood changed at the drop of a hat. Rest in Peace W.
