SHERWOOD, AR – An Arkansas State Trooper shot and killed an intruder in his home Wednesday morning.

The incident happened around 11:30am on Maelstrom Circle in Sherwood. Police say the trooper was asleep in his home when he was awakened by the sound of someone who did not belong in his house. That’s when the trooper shot and killed the intruder in his home.

“If your home is being burglarized and you’re in fear for your life, you don’t have to run away,” said Josh Adams with the Sherwood Police Department. “If you are in fear of something happening to you or your family, you can protect yourself, and he did.”

The man killed in the home invasion has been identified as 23-year-old Cleotis Castleberry. According to his criminal history report, issued by the Pulaski County jail, Castleberry has been arrested numerous times for burglary, theft, failure to appear, and obstructing governmental operations.

The trooper has bee put on paid, temporary leave while the investigation is ongoing.

I am a wife and mother of young children who lives in the Trooper's neighborhood. Thank you, Trooper, for protecting not only your family, but mine. I speak for many other families with kids who are grateful for your service to all of us. I try to teach my children that bad choices will have consequences - some are immediate and others come later. For this guy, justice was served immediately. As for those who say "don't judge": these are the very people who are not teaching our children right and wrong. I hope this is an example to his poorly parented accomplices. Thanks to all police and for everyone who is willing to protect freedom!

LMAO! These comments are something else! It's really simple. Break in the house, clickity clack your dead. And since Arkansas does acknowledge the "Castle Doctrine" it don't matter if you in the house or the yard...5-2-607. Use of deadly physical force in defense of a person. (a) A person is justified in using deadly physical force upon another person if the person reasonably believes that the other person is: (1) Committing or about to commit a felony involving force or violence; (2) Using or about to use unlawful deadly physical force; or (3) (A) Imminently endangering the person's life or imminently about to victimize the person as described in § 9-15-103 from the continuation of a pattern of domestic abuse. (B) As used in this section, “domestic abuse” means the same as defined in § 9-15-103. (b) A person may not use deadly physical force in self-defense if he or she knows that he or she can avoid the necessity of using deadly physical force with complete safety: (1) (A) By retreating. (B) However, a person is not required to retreat if the person is: (i) In the person's dwelling or on the curtilage surrounding the person's dwelling and was not the original aggressor; or (ii) A law enforcement officer or a person assisting at the direction of a law enforcement officer; or (2) By surrendering possession of property to a person claiming a lawful right to possession of the property. (c) As used in this section, “curtilage” means the land adjoining a dwelling that is convenient for family purposes and habitually used for family purposes, but not necessarily enclosed, and includes an outbuilding that is directly and intimately connected with the dwelling and in close proximity to the dwelling.

Really? I can't believe that a man works all night to protect US, and we are even having to go here. I will take this as an opportunity to thank every Trooper and law enforcement in Arkansas, that is underpaid and obviously,,, under respected!!! I will sympathize with the family of the deceased, because I know they loved the young man. There are really no good or bad people in this life,, only good and bad choices. The young man made a bad choice that day, that officer Cartwright and his family, and the deceased young mans family will ALL have to live with.. There won't be another normal day for anyone involved in this horrible tragedy. I'm certain that officer Cartwright and his family won't have peace in their beautiful home for a while because of the tragedy that took place there. I think that anyone who attacks officer Cartwrights character in this matter should drop to their knees and consult the ALMIGHTY FATHER HIMSELF!!! Just personally think this should be a lesson learned for us all.... if you enter someones home,, uninvited and unexpected you never know what awaits you. We must all someday post a sign that states a FACT !!! ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK,,, my spelling may not be gre8t.. but my heart is huge. We must all focus on the facts and stop placing blame... won't change the past. May change the future. The facts,, Hopefully for the 3 young men waiting on their dead friend in the car will learn from this..... I personally am so saddened for everyone who has been touched by this in one way or the other. As for officer Cartwright and his family I pray for peace in your home.

And what's to judge? Look at that rap sheet. And what about the things he's done that he wasn't caught doing. I'm not perfect, but i work. I went to college, i obtained a degree. I don't break into people's homes. If one breaks into my home, i'm gonna try my best to kill. he had opportunities that he chose not use. He chose to live a thug life.
