PINE BLUFF, AR -- Jessie Johnson thought he wouldn't live to see this day.

"I have three broken bones in my face. My eyesight, I can barely see. They messed up my eardrum and stuff," Jessie Johnson said.

He said Glenn Morgan and Joseph Christie jumped him at his apartment two weeks ago.  Johnson said Morgan, his landlord, asked him what happened to the aluminum cans.  Johnson told him he didn't know.  Then, the men stormed in and began their attack -- with the bat and their feet.

"They jumped me. They beat me unconsciously and left me for dead.  I felt like somebody was just taking my life away from me. It's painful every day," Johnson said.

Johnson regained consciousness and went next door for help, but Morgan took him to the hospital.

"I was just trying to get help. I didn't know what was going on. It happened so fast. I'm losing blood; I'm not thinking. I needed treatment," Johnson said.

Even though police have arrested the men Johnson say are responsible, he still doesn't feel safe at Studio One Apartments. He said someone threw a rock through his window as he slept.

The complex is in its second week under new management.  The new manager said she came in to bring the complex back up to standard.

"Our motto is good folks welcomed and we want to stick with that," Nichelle White said.

But Johnson said it's not a good place for him. He's looking for another place to regroup and rehab.

"I don't hate them but I despise what they did. I hope they get justice," Johnson said.

wp and golfdude; two of my favorite reads. Keep in mind though, Fox has an hour to fill as opposed to the others that only have half hour news; hence, we get more "news" stories. Except for the victim being beaten, I got a kick out of this one; two idiots beating a guy over cans? Someone else mentioned hate crime first; I was just debating them.

Don't know where the hate crime crap came from, but the dude stole their cans, got his A$$ kicked and it is funny this is the only station that aired this gossip that is about as newsworthy as my bowel movement this morning

Valid points. I've always been of the opinion that all violent crimes were hate crimes. But "hate crime" laws were made for minorities and gays. Haven't been used much when a white person was the victim. Unless they were gay. The presidential race? Not about black and white with me. Don't much care for the socialist agenda of the Democratic Party, or their president. Put Gen. Powell in there, and I'll vote for him in a heart beat. So I'll reiterate; it's not about black and white, at least not for me.

White on black crime doesn't automatically make it a hate crime. I know that. Although that is the first thing that comes to mind when the term is used just because of the undeniably murky track record of race relations in this country. If it were 2 purple men that jumped on and beat down an orange man with a bat until he was unconscious, left him for dead, told him he'd kill him if he told, and threw a piece of concrete rock through his window IT WOULD STILL BE A HATE CRIME.A person who doesn't have an unnaturally large amount of hate in their heart couldn't do that to another human being. Point Blank Period. Don't stop at reading the article, watch the video of the news report. That's where the information is. Hate is Hate and it's never ever okay be it blk on wht- wht on blk- blk on blk- wht on wht- or any other skin color that makes up the world we live in. My heart broke for Reginald Denny the exact same way it broke for Rodney King. It's all senseless. AND with the way this nation is being ripped in half by dems & the gop (which for MANY pple has become nothing more than a blk man vs a wht man for president..) can you not see how something like this could inevitably happen? honestly ask yourself

WhatsGoingOn, you say no one would do this over cans. I recall a situation where a guy was killed over $10 in a dice game, so dont tell me people wouldnt kill over some cans. People kill for less all the time.

WhatsGoingOn; It can only be a "hate crime" if the perps were white. If it was black on black, or black on white, no such thing as a hate crime then.

Whatsgoingon, this article is very flawed. It doesn't say what has happened to the guys who did this crime or if they're wanted by police, their race or anything like that...so that's why people have commented that way..

Directed towards everyone who has left a comment... Are you serious? This has NOTHING to do with cans. I can't believe I'm even sitting here about to have to break this down... but people don't see what they don't want to. Or maybe it's just easier to ignore? I'm not sure. This was a HATE crime. there, I said it. but please, before you spew bitter words towards me for stating a FACT.. Think for one second. A MAN was beaten with a bat by two other men and had a rock thrown through his window. ??? You're exactly right to say "All this over cans?" Nobody beats down another HUMAN BEING and leaves them for dead over cans. It's just not logical. We can all agree. Throwing a rock... through a mans window... while he's sleeping.. This type of hate doesn't sound the least bit familiar to anyone?? Please open your eyes, and maybe a history book

#mapleman. You ever hear of the phrase "In the vernacular"? That's the way the dude spoke!!!! Not the way Mr. Barnes writes his report. Please, give all of us a break and don't comment of something you know nothing about.
