HOT SPRINGS, AR - Hot Springs Police say a dead woman found in her apartment on Higdon Ferry Road is now being investigated as a homicide.

Police identified the woman as 22-year-old Katie M. Lavender. Her body has been sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy.

After finding a woman dead inside an apartment, Hot Springs Police are investigating what they call a possible homicide.

People there however believe there's no doubt it was murder.

Most had no clue exactly what was going on, only telling us there was always fighting going on between the people inside the apartment in question.

Tuesday night at about 7, Hot Springs Police say they came to a call claiming someone was dead inside the apartment on the 600 block of Higdon Ferry Road.

When they got there that's exactly what they found. A white female in her early 20's was dead.

Detectives are still investigating exactly what happened but the whole thing has neighbors worried.

Dorothy Overfield said, "It's frightening knowing something like that happened to one of our neighbors."

Dipesh Tacker watched as different law enforcement agencies processed the crime scene.

"One of the cop came to my door and asked me if I had noticed any suspicious activity or not," Tacker explained. "So I'm not sure what exactly happened but there was something wrong definitely."

Police had the area taped off with crime tape. Lifenet and the Garland County Coroner were both on the scene as well.
