White County Authorities Investigate Train Collision

WHITE COUNTY, AR-- A Union Pacific train crash sent an engineer to the hospital and derailed roughly 25 rail cars Saturday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the White County Sheriff's Office confirms a moving train hit a standing locomotive on the tracks near Highway 367 and Doyle Rd just before 2pm.

Union Pacific crews are investigating the crash.   Law enforcement officials do not believe the scene is hazardous.

One of two things happened. 1. Either the train in the sidding was to close to the switchpoit and the moving train hit the stationary one, or 2. the moving train did not negotiate the switchpoint at the appropriate speed...........
