Neighbor's pit bull used to attack my car when I would stop at my mailbox. So, instead of shootting the mutt, I got me a can of carburetor cleaner to carry with me. Next time he come and attacked my car......chewed the molding off the car's door... I got my chance to spray the mutt in the eyes with the carburetor cleaner. He took off running and squealing back to his yard. Never seen him again....I hope he either got ran over and killed, or that somebody shot him.

Also, if you watch the video released containing the 911 call, it states deputies have had many calls about the dogs being left unattended and malnourished. The video shows the dog taken into custody lying on the floor with all of his ribs showing. I'm not so nice when I'm hungry either. Some people should be locked in a house with no water and food and lets see how that turns out...

ALL PIT BULLS ARE NOT "TIME BOMBS" AND DRUG DEALERS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO HAVE PIT BULLS, OR KIDS, FOR THAT MATTER! To the people who always say BAN THE BREED: Have you ever owned a pit bull? I have and still do! If you treat it right, it will love you unconditionally, IT WILL GIVE IT'S LIFE FOR YOU, NOT TAKE YOURS! If you raise them in a bad environment, involving violence and drugs, of course they have a mean personality - that goes for any breed and any human raised in that type of environment. Have you ever saw the hope in their eyes when they are rescued from and abusive or neglectful environment? I HAVE and they have became members of my family! Not every dog can be reformed - so why would anyone continue to keep dogs who have sent them to the hospital in the past? Because the dogs serve a purpose to some "types" of people. They play a role and it is not the role of a loved pet. They want dogs capable of violence(and that is what they teach them) to protect things they should not have - such as drugs, ect. SOME PEOPLE SHOULD BE BANNED - FROM BREATHING!

@ tam5catz...I am sorry for your loss and will pray for you and the family. May your friend RIP. I do however would like to know why she and her husband decided to keep the animal after the first attack that landed her in the hospital? I'm just curious?

Staycold, I did not suggest a ban. I suggested that the laws be changed so owners of dogs who kill or maim will face serious charges. I also suggested that pit owners be required to register their dogs and carry insurance sufficient to cover medical expenses. Would you be willing to carry insurance in order to keep this breed? I'm not bullying the breed, merely making a decision based on my own personal experience about this breed. Your remarks indicate several things: 1.) this breed is often used for dog fighting (probably due to its higher prey drive, higher level of agression, and its natural physical attributes) 2.) once a pit has been used for fighting, it is difficult to rehabilitate and dangerous to keep around. 3.) that potential owners may need training or a particular mindset to properly raise this breed 4.) the media will sensationalize any pit attack story, so owners should take specific precautions (fences, runner for chain or whatever it takes to keep your dog on your property) All of these can be drawn from your post, which indicates these dogs require precautions above and beyond what other breeds need.

I had a pit that I raised and it was loved and NEVER beat. She grew up with my other dogs Pomeranian and Yorkshires fenced yard, loving home never abused and raised around my 2 grand children for three years. Yes they can be loving but one day she turned and attacked my Pom and ripped her eye out and broke her jaw. We liked to never got her off my Pom but thank goodness we did. When I came home after leaving my dog at the hospital my son said he would take the pit. Well about 2 weeks later he brings her back to me and she had run out of the house and nipped a young girl waiting on the bus. Yes I had her put to sleep. She was smart and beautiful but those dogs want let go. I say ban them.

Some of these comments are disgusting. Ignorance and narrow mindedness. The media has made pitbulls out to be what they are today. BEFORE pointing fingers and using false allegations why don't you do a little re-search first? Like, were these previous rescue dogs? Were they previous fighting dogs? Was she abusing these dogs? What sorts of things like that might have caused this attack? Do NOT target just any regular pitbull, that's racism. My two are overly excited about meeting ANY new person & i am 150% sure that they would never attack me. Ever. Get your facts straight before you start talking about bans because i can promise you that responsible pitbull owners will be coming out of the woodwork and taking a stand. STOP BULLYING THE BREED BASED ON WHAT THE MEDIA CAN'T EVEN ANSWER YET!!!! OPEN YOUR MIND BEFORE YOU JUDGE 'ALL' PITBULLS.
