FAULKNER COUNTY, AR - A Malvern man has been arrested for looting in the aftermath of the April 27 tornado.
The Faulkner County Sheriff's Office (FCSO) says David Griffin, 72, faces charges of theft of property, criminal impersonation and criminal trespass.
He was arrested after a Mayflower homeowner reported stopping him from taking a 4-wheeler.
The homeowner reported to a highway patrol officer that a man later identified as Griffin had loaded his son's 4-wheeler onto a trailer. The FCSO says the homeowner confronted Griffin, telling him he owned the ATV and that he needed to unload it. Griffin unloaded the 4-wheeler, but before he left, the homeowner asked what his name was, to which he reportedly replied John Smith, and added that he was with the Faulkner County Sheriff's Office.
FCSO investigators later found Griffin sitting in his vehicle nearby. That's when he told them he was only trying to help out and that he was taking the 4-wheeler in order to find out whose it was. Deputies say Griffin had a permit to assist at the home of his granddaughter. However the home where the 4-wheeler was located is more than a half mile away from where his permit is assigned.
Griffin was arrested without incident and held with no bond.
