Ax-Weilding Man Shot By Brinkley Police

BRINKLEY, AR -- There was an officer-involved shooting at the Signature Bank-North Branch on 1405 North Main, Friday around noon.

The suspect had been in the bank around noon today and is reported to have some mental problems.

He made threats in the bank and then left.

Police were called to the scene.

The suspect came back with an ax and threatened officers while trying to get into the bank, according to Brinkley Chief of Police, Jacki Speer.

The suspect was shot once in the shoulder by officers and taken to UAMS.

His condition is unknown at the time.

The officer who shot the suspect is on paid leave, according to police.

State police are still investigating this incident.
