JONESBORO, AR – Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin suspended Police Chief Michael Yates for a month without pay over comments he made about a newspaper reporter on social media.

According to KAIT, a news release was issued Friday stating that Yates’ suspension would begin immediately. Yates’ is required to write an apology to Sunshine Crump, the reporter, and the newspaper she worked for, The Sun.

On Monday, Crump resigned, saying she no longer felt safe in her position.

"Wonder if ole Sunshine (reporter) could pass a drug test?," he wrote. "Why yes, she has been arrested before," Yates said in a Facebook post.
