Little Rock Bicyclist Dies in Eureka Springs Trail Accident
LITTLE ROCK, AR -- A local woman has died in a bicycle accident in Eureka Springs.
Laura Wooldridge, 39, was riding in the woods at Lake Leatherwood during the Fat Tire Festival when the accident happened around 9:30 Saturday morning.
Wooldridge was able to walk out of the trail carrying her bike.
Emergency crews showed up to assist.
She was walking, talking and responsive, but seriously hurt.
The fire department called for a medical helicopter and she was airlifted to a Fayetteville hospital where she passed away a short time later.
A memorial ride was held Sunday afternoon in North Little Rock near the Big Dam Bridge.
The Central Arkansas Recreational Pedalers group, of which Wooldridge was a member, issued the following statement:
"No words can adequately describe what Laura Wooldridge did for so many in this world. No words can describe how sad the news of her passing is. Our lives are forever changed and we will never forget. She will always be with us in our hearts when we ride."
Her husband John wished to add, "Laura was known to cyclists by her infectious smile and was an advocate for women cyclists in the area."
