Hugs and high fives all around, as 1,900 super kids crossed the finish line of the last mile of their own 26.2 mile journey this morning at the Little Rockers Kids Marathon.
Jackson Smith of Ouichita School District sprinted hard to finish first in today’s race. “It’s my third race here at Little Rockers,” he said at the finish line. Not far behind, 11-year-old Kylie Hall of CAC was the first to cross for the girls. “We’ve been running every Thursday at school, one to two miles each week,” Hall said looking around as others came barreling toward the finish.
Throughout the school year, Little Rockers train to complete 25.2 miles before arriving at the start line of tomorrow’s marathon. Today’s mile race wrapped up the completion of this year’s program, as kids were able to knock down the last mile of their own year-long marathon.
Some sprinted the last block, others wrapped arm-in-arm made their way to pick up their medals and meet their cheering parents and classmates in the Perks Pavilion.
In all, 53 schools from across the state of Arkansas took part in this year’s Little Rockers Kids Marathon with the same goal: to get kids from 7-12 years old moving and incorporating activity into their lives at home and at school.
