NWS Releases Preliminary Rating for Central Arkansas Tornado

MAYFLOWER, AR -- The National Weather Service (NWS) in Little Rock has given the tornado that hit Mayflower and Vilonia a preliminary EF-3 rating.

The rating comes from the damage the NWS says they have surveyed in central Arkansas.  According to John Robinson with the NWS, two teams were dispatched to survey the entire track of the tornado path.  Both teams started at Mayflower, with one heading southwest from there and the other going northeast.

For reference, the previous tornado in Vilonia, on April 25, 2011, was rated EF-2.
