Presidents' Day Not the Only Holiday Being Celebrated

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Many enjoyed the day off for Presidents' Day, but today also holds special significance in the civil rights movement as a state holiday to honor Daisy Bates.

A luncheon was held by the Christian Ministerial Alliance (CMA) in honor of Bates this afternoon had dozens paying their respects including some notable figures.

The President of the CMA tells us all of the money raised from the event goes to support the Daisy and L.C Bates Museum. And he says the annual luncheon is meant to carry on the legacy of the Bates' actions to future generations.

"We were not extended equal protections of the law in this state and Daisey was at the forefront of fighting for justice equal opportunities for all citizens and it's important we remember those contributions and honor them," says
Rev. Marion Humphrey.

Humphrey went on to say those who don't learn from history will repeat it, and that is why it's so important to remember the efforts of this great leader.
