Crews salted the roads over the weekend but the rain washed away most of it.
The state highway and transportation department pre-treated roads Monday with liquid calcium chloride to create a barrier between the pavement and precipitation. Officials say that solution will make it easier for them to clear snow or ice from any of the state's highways.
State highway and city road crews will be back at 5 o'clock Tuesday morning to get a jump on drivers hitting the road for rush hour.
"We have crews expected to be in a couple of hours before that to get equipment ready and we are going to go pre-treat some areas to go get bridges and overpasses with some treatment on them to short circuit things if possible," says Ronny Loe, Assistant Director of the Little Rock Public Works Department.
The city plans to call out about 40 employees for the early shift.
