Old State House Prepares For Special Session

- LITTLE ROCK, AR- The Old State House Museum is dusting off desks and chairs as organizers prepare to host the Arkansas House of Representatives next week.

An extensive restoration project currently taking place in the House Chamber at the Arkansas State Capitol prohibits members from using the chamber until the work is complete.

This is the first time in over 30 years the Arkansas House of Representatives has convened in the Old State House. It will also be the first time in over 100 years political leaders will introduce and debate legislation in the chamber.

Workers spent the day rearranging furniture for the special session.

"Getting out desks ready we've worked with the bureau of legislative research to make sure our bandwidth is good because they will be streaming the session online and over the air," says Matthew Rowe, Old State House Museum PIO.

The legislature will convene for an Extraordinary Session on June 30 at 4pm.  The Governor has called for the session to address solutions to rising teacher’s insurance premiums and provide additional funding for correctional facilities.
