"Lori has awoken," he said. "She's awake, talking and she's breathing completely on her own."
Adam was by her side in line at Walmart on Saturday when the unthinkable happened.
"We were standing in line," he said. "I said something to Lori, and when I looked back there was a gun pointed at her firing six shots into her."
Affidavits of the events that followed sound like something from a movie.
Customers scattered, running from the store for their lives.
Police used surveillance video to arrest Myron Terrell, 29, just hours later.
Adam has not much to say about the suspect.
"What I want to say about him...is I'm praying for him," he said.
Instead, he's focusing on his wife and her incredible recovery.
The first thing she said when she woke up?
"She told me happy birthday!" he said.
Imagining spending his birthday with his wife in a much different setting, the two have to make due at the hospital.
He said it has helped that they have seen an outpouring of support.
"It's a blessing," he said. "God is definitely on our side helping us out."
