Harrell served six months with the North Little Rock Police Department back in 2012.
He signed on in January of that year and left in June because of his military assignment that sent him to Afghanistan.
He was injured there so he never returned to the department.
Officers said they never lost touch with Harrell."He just had all the tools, the common sense, and the steadiness that we need in law enforcement.," said North Little Rock Police Chief Mike Davis.
Funeral services for Harrell are set for Saturday, February 15, at the First Assembly of God North Little Rock.
