PARAGOULD, AR (News Release) --  Scott Ellington, Prosecuting Attorney for the Second Judicial District of Arkansas, announces today the guilty pleas of Edward Howerton, 33, of Paragould for the rape of two known minor females, both under the age of 13.

Circuit Judge Randy Philhours of Paragould sentenced Howerton to two 30 year terms in the Arkansas Department of Corrections, to be served concurrently.

"There is no place in our community for sexual predators like Edward Howerton,” Ellington said. "If one chooses to violate the innocence of children, just like Mr. Howerton, they will pay the consequences.”

Following a joint investigation by the Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children Division (CACD) and the Paragould Police Department, Howerton was arrested in 2012 by Paragould Police Det. Sgt. Rhonda Thomas and Det. Sgt. Scott Snyder.

One of the victims, then age 11, told investigators that Howerton had been abusing her since age 7.

Ellington praised law enforcement for their hard work in the case saying,

“Today’s plea would not have been possible without the solid police work and tireless efforts of the CACD, Det. Sgt.Thomas and Det. Sgt. Snyder.”

The state was represented by Greene County Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys Kimberly Dale and Adam Butler. Howerton was represented by attorney Will Kueter of Jonesboro.
