CONWAY,AR.- A local Conway group is helping parents with sending their kids back to school. The Pine Street Backpack Program offers a free backpack full of school supplies to hundreds of kids in Faulkner County.
"It costs roughly 50 dollars and that's just for your basics and so you think about a single parent who has two or three children, three or four children. We are saving them 50 dollars a kid that can be upwards of two hundred three hundred dollars," says volunteer Gena Ester.
Parents picked up the backpacks Saturday at Pleasant Branch Baptist church from nine this morning until one. The recipients we spoke with say they appreciate all the hard work volunteers put in to making this possible.
"They weren't just thrown together they were actually catered to the child's list. So its just a tremendous feeling that they all came together just to help us," says Kristin Paez.
This year the group gave out one thousand backpacks and hope to increase that number next year.
