LITTLE ROCK, AR-A number of groups are awaiting petition approval following the Arkansas attorney generals certification of the Arkansas Hemp and Cannabis Amendment.
On Wednesday AG Dustin McDaniel approved the ballot title which means supporters can begin to gather signatures of registered voters.
The marijuana plant, also known as cannabis, has been outlawed for around 80 years.
But if more than 78 thousand signatures can be collected and validated it will go before voters.
For those collecting the signatures, they say the plant is more than just a recreational drug.
"Most people when they talk about the word marijuana its about smoking the dope. Well marijuana is a slang term for a plant called cannabis period, this is a set of mittens that has that same plant in them" says Petitioner Robert Reed.
The deadline to collect those signatures is July 7th.
