LITTLE ROCK, AR - More than $30,000 in damage is reported after police say a drunk driver hit four vehicles and two homes.

It happened Tuesday afternoon near downtown but there were no injuries.

Police say Paul Sonny, 55, of Camden, faces a DWI charge and several other charges in the incidents.

The Little Rock Police Department (LRPD) says the first call came in around 4:30 from W. Daisy Bates St. and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. That's where a driver reported a hit and run accident. The man told officers that he was driving east on Daisy Bates and stopped at the red light at MLK when a maroon SUV hit his 1999 Buick Century on the rear bumper and then headed south on MLK.

Officers were then called to W. 26th St. and MLK Dr. on another hit and run accident involving a maroon SUV. The driver told police she was headed south on MLK at W. 26th when the SUV tried to pass her and hit her 2000 Buick Century on the driver side front fender and kept going south on MLK.

A third report of a hit and run involving a maroon SUV sent officers to the 1400 hundred block of Cumberland Street. That's where a homeowner said he heard a loud crash and when he looked outside, he saw the SUV had hit a pickup truck and a Cadillac. The man said after the SUV hit the Cadillac, it spun around, hit the home at 1417 Cumberland, backed up, and hit the home at 1421 Cumberland before driving off.

Officers found the maroon SUV, a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban, in the 200 block of E. 17th St., where they arrested Sonny, who was taken to the Pulaski County Regional Jail for a DWI breathalyzer test. Police say while in the jail, Sonny became combative. He allegedly punched and kicked an officer on the neck. The officer responded with a burst of pepper spray to Sonny's face. The man continued to struggle and hit another officer in the nose with his fist, according to police. That officer, who was bleeding, had to be taken to the hospital.
Sonny remains in jail. He is charged with two counts of Battery 2nd, DWI, DWI Refusal, three counts of Hit and Run, Reckless Driving, and No Driver’s License.

The LRPD says the list of damage totals $32,200 and includes:
  • 1999 Buick Century - $200
  • 2000 Buick Century - $500
  • 2003 Ford Ranger - $1,500
  • 2003 Cadillac DeVille - $7,000
  • Home at 1417 Cumberland - $8,000
  • Home at 1421 Cumberland - $15,000
