In 2012, voters approved a tax to add two lanes.
But one woman says, before that happens she hopes the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) will take care of another issue.
Mary-Julia Hill says the traffic noise -- for nearby homes -- is unbearable.
"I think it's difficult for people to deal with the constant noise level. In this area of Briarwood there is never quiet," she says.
An AHTD spokesman says that's something they'll look into during studies of the area.
"And if they do meet that threshold then we will meet individually with those neighborhoods and explain what the options are, but the neighborhood will have a say whether or not we erect a noise wall for example," says AHTD Spokesman Randy Ort.
Construction on the I-630 widening project is expected to begin in 2017.
