LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Three low-performing Arkansas schools have been selected to receive up to about $11 million in federal School Improvement Grant funds.
Commissioner of Education Tom Kimbrell announced Tuesday that Forrest City High School in the Forrest City School District will receive about $4.91 million. McClellan High School in the Little Rock School District will get about $4.30 million and Hughes High School in the Hughes School District will receive about $1.78 million.
The grants are awarded to schools through a competitive application process and must be used to implement one of the four school improvement models required by the federal government.
Officials say the schools will incorporate the transformational model, which requires replacing the principal and improving the school through comprehensive curriculum reform, professional development, extended learning time and other strategies.
