LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — The Arkansas Forestry Commission says another 1,000 acres have been claimed by wildfires.

The agency says crews responded to 34 wildfires on Wednesday.

Fifteen counties are under burn bans and conditions are conducive for fires across most of the state. The mild winter and dry conditions have left little water for vegetation.

There are significant chances of heavy rain and thunderstorms across Arkansas from Thursday until Sunday.

The commission notes that even in counties where burn bans haven't been declared homeowners should use extreme caution. Gusty winds combined with dry vegetation make it easy for fires to spread.
