LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — State Democratic Party Chairman Will Bond says he won't run for a congressional seat representing central Arkansas.

Bond tells The Associated Press that he's decided not to enter the race for the seat now held by Republican Congressman Tim Griffin.

A former state legislator, Herb Rule, has filed paperwork to run as a Democrat in the contest.

The one-week period to file for state and federal office ends on Thursday. Democrats hope to regain two congressional seats lost in the 2010 election — including the 2nd district seat — while Republicans hope to win control of the state Legislature.
