LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — At the 2008 Republican National Convention, John Boozman was the only GOP member of Congress from Arkansas.
When the 2012 convention begins Monday, the U.S. senator will be the senior member of an Arkansas delegation chock full of Republican officeholders.
The Arkansas Republican Party has made great strides in four years, having gone from having a single House seat to holding three of four seats in the lower chamber, with Boozman in the Senate.
Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney is expected to win the state's six electoral votes. That frees the state party to focus on winning seats at the state and congressional level. Rep. Mike Ross, the state's only Democratic congressman, is retiring and Republicans are confident that they can claim his south Arkansas seat in November.
