LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — The one-week filing period for office in Arkansas begins this week, and both major parties have plenty on the line as they kick off the 2012 campaign season.

Hundreds of candidates for office are expected to line up at the Capitol starting at noon Thursday to make their bids official. With no statewide candidates, most of the focus will be on the state's legislative and congressional races.

All 135 House and Senate seats will be up this year after redistricting, as well as the state's four congressional seats.

Democrats are trying to rebound from a 2010 election where they lost control of the state's congressional delegation, while Republicans are aiming to win control of the state Legislature. The campaigns for the four Republican presidential candidates are also expected to file.

OK, I'll file my candidacy for the office of Sargent in charge of the booze LOL. I promise to be fair and impartial to all of the members of the Insititute For the Criminally Insane (Lawmakers) and The First Tobacco Tax Buzzard Of Arkansas (Mike Beebe) and show all of the respect and fairness they have shown me, myself and I as a tobacco user. O( course I would set limits on how much they could consume and where and when they could consume booze, which of course would be changeable without notice, but it would be a fair and impartial decision without much thought given to or any apologies for any inconvenience hardships caused to them of course.
