LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — The panel in charge of redrawing Arkansas' House and Senate districts is preparing to vote on its final maps.
The Board of Apportionment planned to vote Friday on the final redistricting maps for the state's 100 House and 35 Senate districts. The board is composed of Gov. Mike Beebe, Attorney General Dustin McDaniel and Secretary of State Mark Martin.
Beebe and McDaniel are Democrats and both have proposed maps that would lower the number of majority black House districts from 13 to 11. Martin is a Republican who has proposed increasing the number of majority black districts to 15. All three propose keeping the number of majority black Senate districts at four.
The three also differ on the number of non-term limited House incumbents placed in the same district.
