MAGNOLIA, Ark. (AP) — A long-time Arkansas state trooper has been selected as the next police chief in Magnolia.

The Banner-News reports that Mayor Parnell Vann told the City Council Monday night that Trooper Glenn Maxwell will take over as police chief on Jan. 1. Vann said interim Police Chief Glenn Proctor will continue in the post until Maxwell takes over.

Proctor was named interim chief during the summer after the still unexplained departure of former chief Robert Gorum.

Maxwell has been a state trooper for the past 23 years.
