LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Officials say Arkansas' unemployment rate rose one-tenth of a percentage point to 7.3 percent in July.
The Arkansas Department of Workforce Services says the slight increase is normal for this time of year. According to the department, there are 28,800 more employed Arkansans than in July of last year.
Officials say government jobs dropped by 14,400 in July — primarily because of summer breaks at public schools and universities. Leisure and hospitality jobs dropped by 1,200 and officials attribute the decrease to food-service jobs at schools.
Jobs in manufacturing rose by 1,000 last month, with the durable goods sector reporting gains in fabricated metal product manufacturing and in wood product manufacturing.
