BLYTHEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Authorities in Blytheville say they intend to charge a 16-year-old boy as an adult in the shooting death of an 18-year-old student in Blytheville.

Prosecutors say a hearing will likely be held next week on their request for the case to be heard in adult court. Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Curtis Walker says the teen is accused of first-degree murder in last week's shooting death of Miguel Estrada.

Estrada was shot to death as he walked home from school on Thursday.

A 15-year-old boy was also arrested at the time, but authorities released him without filing any charges.

Police Chief Ross Thompson says Estrada's death was not a random act of violence and that there was a "history of threats" between Estrada and the 16-year-old.
