CONWAY, Ark. (AP) - A Little Rock-based technology and marketing services company has pledged $200,000 over the next five years to support of the University of Central Arkansas' Department of Computer Science.

The university on Wednesday announced the gift from Acxiom will help underwrite the hiring of a tenure-track faculty member for the Acxiom Professorship in Computer Science.

Officials said enrollment in the computer science department is 23 percent higher this fall than in fall 2010. College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics dean Steve Runge says the department envisions itself as a leader in undergraduate computer science education and must attract high-quality faculty members.

Acxiom president and CEO Scott Howe says the university's graduates have been a substantial part of the company's success.

The company said it April it employs about 6,300 worldwide.
