FORDYCE, Ark. (AP) — Although Dallas County leads the state in per-capita sales of Arkansas' new lottery tickets, retailers say they haven't seen a flood of new customers.
Rex Hearne, the owner of Rex's Liquor Store in Fordyce, says his regular customers have accounted for most of his store's ticket sales. He says that because the county is so sparsely populated, the per-capita rate is higher than other bigger areas of the state.
The Arkansas Lottery Commission says that Dallas County retailers sold an average of $17.64 in lottery tickets per resident from Sept. 28 to Oct. 11. Dallas County has more than 8,100 residents.
Gary Jackson, the owner of Food Mart in Fordyce, says he hasn't had any big winners, but he's steadily paying out small amounts on tickets.
