ROGERS, Ark. (AP) — Supporters of a once-thriving resort town now partially submerged in a western Arkansas lake will have more time to push for preservation of its remaining structure.
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials had said a decision on whether to demolish or keep the Monte Ne tower would be made by the end of January, but Beaver Lake deputy operations manager Mike Richards says no decision will be made until a study is completed.
The Northwest Arkansas Times reports the Army Corps' Center of Expertise for the Preservation of Historic Buildings and Structures will visit the site in February or March.
Historians say the Monte Ne was one of Arkansas' most visited resort towns between 1900 and 1920.
Most of the resort was flooded when the corps finished Beaver Lake.
