FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) — A 10-day floating trip to promote economic development and tourism along the Arkansas River will visit several cities in western and central Arkansas this week.

Seventeen cruisers, houseboats and yachts left the Little Rock Country Club last week, and are scheduled to stop in Russellville on Monday; Ozark on Tuesday; Fort Smith and Van Buren on Wednesday; Clarskville on Thursday and Conway on Friday.

The flotilla stopped for events in North Little Rock, Pine Bluff and Dumas over the weekend.

Arkansas River Connections Maryl Koeth told the Southwest Times Record for Sunday's editions she wanted people to discuss the river and its potential, and has received numerous calls from people who are interested.

Among other things, officials also want to examine deepening the river's channel to enhance shipping volume.
