LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — The Arkansas Board of Education is considering a request to close the Gillett Elementary School.

The board meets Monday and will consider the proposal from the DeWitt School District, which operates the school. Superintendent Gary Wayman says the DeWitt School Board voted in June to close the elementary school.

The district says it's losing $150,000 per year by keeping the school open. State data shows about 75 students are enrolled in the elementary school.

The state says residents in Gillett are opposing the move. Under the proposal, Gillett students would attend school in DeWitt starting next fall.
